On their case ... Charlie Simpson has slated Freefaller
FREEFALLER have declared war on ex-Busted star Charlie Simpson after the singer said he was "disgusted" by their cover of a classic Green Day song.
We reported yesterday how Charlie, who now fronts hard rock group Fightstar, labelled the band "worse than The Noise Next Door" and said they "massacred" Basket Case.
But now Freefaller have hit back - with a letter to Charlie they asked to be exclusively published by The Sun Online.
They told us: "We were gigging before Busted were even manufactured!
"The reason we released Basket Case, with Green Day's approval, was due to public demand after fans and radio stations raved about our live performance of the song over the last four years.
"So go get your 'Teenage Kicks' elsewhere Charlie!
"P.S. Glad to see you've got a drummer this time round!"
Up for a Fight ... Charlie
The Undertones Teenage Kicks was one of many classic songs Charlie covered while in Busted - with the band also paying homage to The Jam, Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and Van Morrison.
In a chat with this week's NME, the former Busted singer said: "I'll tell you who's worse than The Noise Next Door - Freefaller.
"Have you come across them? They've covered Green Day. I'm disgusted.
"I don't know which numbnut's behind that one, but it's a complete travesty.
"I mean who sits there and thinks: 'Right, we're going to cover and massacre one of the all-time classics?'"
